Alternative entry pathways

Applicants for undergraduate studies at Monash University who do not have VCE or equivalent qualifications should consider the following Monash programs to enable them to meet the minimum entry requirements for undergraduate degrees.

Entry pathways via other qualifications

Please note that meeting the following minimum entry requirements in pathway studies does not guarantee entry to a course as the demand for course places often exceeds the number of places available.

Applicants who met the minimum entry requirements more than 5-10 years ago and wish to return to study may still be required to demonstrate their preparedness and aptitude for tertiary study. Visit the Monash University Course Finder for practical advice for mature-age and non-school-leaver applicants on preliminary studies that will enable applicants to meet the minimum entry requirements for Monash degrees.

University studies - single unit enrolment

  • Satisfactory completion of two units at any Australian university or with Open Universities Australia. Scored or graded results are required. Where applicants provide assessment results in the form of pass/fail or competent/non-competent only, they will not be consideration for entry. However, where graded or scored results are not available, candidates should provide additional scored information, which may enhance selection prospects. This could include: previous Year 12 results or results of other post-secondary studies.
  • Applicants must also meet any specified prerequisite studies or equivalent for their course of interest. Applicants are advised to select units that will enable them to meet course prerequisites.
  • Some faculties may have additional entry requirements such as interviews, admission tests and folios. See the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre VTAC Guide or Monash University Course Finder. See also: Monash University CourseFinder for specific details on alternative entry pathways to particular courses.

Note: previous Year 12 studies may also be taken into consideration in selection.

TAFE qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of the first year of a associate diploma or completion of an advanced certificate (Certificate IV or above) offered by a TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institute. Scored or graded results are required. Where applicants provide assessment results in the form of pass/fail or competent/non-competent only, they will not be considered for entry.
Some faculties may have additional entry requirements such as interviews, admission tests and folios. See the VTAC Guide or Monash University Course Finder.
  • See also: Monash University Course Finder for specific details on alternative entry pathways to particular courses.

Note: previous Year 12 studies may also be taken into consideration in selection.

Aptitude tests

Monash University decided in early 2006 to begin using aptitude tests as an additional entry pathway into its courses, or as an additional selection criterion alongside the ENTER in entry decisions. For more information see the Aptitude tests website.
