Harry G. Murray (Ph.D.,
University of Illinois, 1968) is Professor Emeritus
in the Department of Psychology, University of Western Ontario,
London,
Canada. He has conducted research over the past 30 years on teacher
characteristics that contribute to effectiveness in university
teaching,
including personality traits and classroom teaching behaviours; and
on
methods of evaluating and improving university teaching, including
summative
and formative student instructional ratings. Professor Murray has
authored
approximately 100 published papers on university teaching. He has
won awards
for outstanding teaching from 3M Canada and the Ontario
Confederation of
University Faculty Associations, awards for excellence in research
from the
American Educational Research Association and the Canadian Society
for the
Study of Higher Education, and most recently was awarded the Chris
Knapper
award for career achievement from the Society for Teaching and
learning in
Higher Education. He has also served as a consulting editor for
Research in
Higher Education and the Journal of Educational Psychology.
