Placed on a Conditional Enrolment
Definition
A condition is placed on your enrolment requiring you to
perform to an appropriate level in a specific timeframe and complete
any other nominated task.
In fact, every student is on a condition – that they pass at
least 50% of the units in which they are enrolled and that they do not
fail a compulsory unit twice. A specific condition is in addition to
this.
Types of conditions -
- To pass specific units within a nominated semester
- To pass a specific number of units
- To complete the degree within a year
- To enrol full-time or part-time
- To enrol in specific units in specific semesters
- To make regular contact with your course advisor
Reality Check
You cannot be automatically excluded because you fail to meet
a condition that has been placed on your enrolment.
You will not be sent a Notice of Referral
letter to appear at an APC
Hearing at the end of first semester. These are only sent out at
the end of the year.
But you will be sent a Notice of Referral
letter and come before the APC at the end of the year if you fail
to meet the condition imposed on your enrolment.
Reflect
Realise the importance of a study condition and how this is a
condition that will be reviewed even more closely at the end of the
next academic year.
Contact
Course adviser to discuss the implications of your failure to
meet your condition. In some faculties a specific person is nominated
for this role.
Prepare
Take the necessary steps to ensure you meet your conditions.
Don't leave it to chance. Examine the obstacles from last year and try
to remove them or lessen their effect.
Implications
of failing to meet conditions
You will be sent a Notice of Referral
letter at the end of the year asking you to “show cause” as to why
you should be permitted to continue with your studies.
The APC takes a more strict view towards students who they have already
reviewed.
