Choosing Quality Child Care

Accreditation

The National Childcare Accreditation Council have introduced the Quality Assurance Systems (QA) to ensure that children in long day centres, family day care and out of school hours care have stimulating, positive experiences and interactions which will foster all aspects of their development.

The QA aims to ensure long day care centres, family day care schemes and out of school hours care services stimulate children's emotional and intellectual growth, with positive experiences and interactions.

The process for quality improvement in long day care centres is underpinned by 10 Quality Areas involving 35 principles with a standard two and half year period of Accreditation. For a centre to be accredited, they must comply with a satisfactory rating in all quality areas.

The Quality Areas address the following:

  • Relationships with Children
  • Respect for Children
  • Partnerships with Families
  • Staff Interactions
  • Planning & Evaluation
  • Learning & Development
  • Protective Care
  • Health
  • Safety
  • Managing to Support Quality

The NCAC maintains a register of long day care centres and family day care schemes. To access this service, visit the NCAC web site based register for further information.
