Volunteer's Experience - Glenda's story
What you have gained being a volunteer for the friendship program?
I find the experience enriches your life by interacting with a young person from another culture, you can learn so much. I gain a sense of satisfaction knowing I have made a difference to a young person's life just by being part of it. It is easy to be a volunteers as you let the student be part of your normal life for example inviting the student to family bbq's and community events that I would normally go to. I have been to Nonie's graduation, met her family and gone to Christmas carols with them. It is such a little effort but a huge benefit for myself and my student. |
