Influenza Vaccinations

The UHS is invited to conduct influenza vaccination programs each year. This is a considerable undertaking for the Clayton Campus and to assist in the processs the UHS is implementing guidelines for the assistance of departments and individuals.

The UHS will vaccinate all persons considered at risk in the NHMRC guidelines. These individuals are detected by the UHS software and will receive advice by mail or by the doctor at a routine visit. Note that those over 65 years of age are vaccinated free of charge.

Individuals not included in the NHMRC guidelines may consult their doctor to discuss the merits of vaccination.

The NHMRC Guidelines

  • All individuals 65 years and older and vaccination is free.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults 50 years and older.
  • Adults with chronic debilitating diseases (especially those with chronic cardiac, pulmonary, renal and metabolic disorders).
  • Children with cyanotic congenital heart disease.
  • Adults and children receiving immunosuppressive therapy.
  • Residents of nursing homes and other chronic care facilities.
  • Staff and others who care for immunocompromised patients.
  • Staff of nursing homes and other chronic care facilities (in an attempt to protect the patients).
