Re-enrolment

All award students (on-campus and off-campus) seeking to continue studies in the following academic year need to select units and formally enrol in them in order to be considered ‘re-enrolled’.

Timing

Re-enrolment for the 2009 academic year will commence for all coursework students on Monday 13 Oct 2008.

The closing dates may vary for each faculty and from year to year. The closing dates are normally finalised by 31 Aug each year.

Timetable

The Monash Unviersity Timetable Systems (MUTTS) allows you to view the range of times and locations for each unit of study, so you can build your personal timetable. You do not need to be enrolled in units to be able to view their availability.

Method

Re-enrolment can be undertaken either by:

  • enrolling in units via the Web Enrolment System (WES), or
  • completing a hardcopy Course Enrolment Form.

If using WES, we strongly recommend that you seek course advice or undertake investigation into your unit selection for re-enrolment prior to logging onto WES.  This will enable you to process your unit selection quickly.

If you do not use WES for more than 20 minutes after you have logged in, your WES session will be automatically disconnected. This timeout assists in ensuring the security of your student information. Consequently, you will need to fully log back into WES to undertake any further WES enquiries or transactions.

Note: If you have made any changes to your unit enrolment without submitting your changes, WES will  keep a cached copy of your unit searches for 60 minutes.  If you return to WES within 60 minutes, you will not need to re-enter any unit searches you made previously.

The email that you will be sent in September regarding re-enrolment will outline the method of re-enrolment (i.e.via WES or hardcopy Course Enrolment Form) that your faculty has decided will be most appropriate for you - most students are expected to re-enrol via WES.

Communication Strategy

Students will be notified of the re-enrolment opening and closing dates through a series of communication including:

  1. emails to Monash email accounts
  2. posters around campus
  3. dates available at the enrolments web site and in ask.monash

Re-enrolment Conditions

Unless you anticipate completing your course at the end of semester one you must:

  • re-enrol in all units (core and elective) for both semesters or an administrative encumbrance may be applied in November and you will not receive your semester two results.
  • re-enrol in both courses if you are doing a double degree
  • re-enrol in all units (core and elective) for semester two if you are on intermission until the end of semester one
  • not leave re-enrolment until the last day. You may experience WES access issues or require extra course information and thus need to contact university staff. Late fees are not waived on the grounds of last day(s) WES access problems.

International students: If you do not re-enrol in 24 credit points in both semesters you may be in breach of your student visa requirements and may be reported to DIAC. An enrolment of less than 24 credit points in either semester one or two must be discussed with your faculty.

If any of the following condition applies, you must still re-enrol:

Condition Action
Applying for Special Consideration in semester two Re-enrol assuming you will pass the unit
Subject to Academic Performance Review Re-enrol assuming you will successfully appeal the decision
Enrolled in summer units that are pre-requisites Re-enrol assuming you will pass these units
Applying for course transfer after results release Re-enrol assuming that you will not be transferred
Granted conditional enrolment from Academic Progress Review Re-enrol assuming you will meet the conditions set by the Academic Progress Committee
Sitting special or deferred exams from semester two Re-enrol assuming you will pass these units

Debt/Encumbrances

If you have any outstanding debts to the university and your enrolment has been encumbered, you will not be permitted to re-enrol until the encumbrance is resolved. Students with an administrative encumbrance are expected to re-enrol within the specified timeframes and late resolution of the encumbrance will not be considered as reason for waiving any late re-enrolment penalties.
