69. Indigenous Employment

69.1 The University will establish and maintain the position of an “Advancing Indigenous Employment Coordinator”. The University shall send to the Coordinator all positions classified as HEW 5 and below prior to advertisement and, following requests for advertising being approved by the Divisional Director (Human Resources) or nominee, all advertisements, in order for suitable indigenous candidates to be given consideration for appointment.

69.2 To advance Indigenous employment the University will actively seek to secure the appointment of at least ten Indigenous Australian staff members per year and assist Indigenous staff in their training and career development in order to promote retention.

69.3 The University will make adjustments to the ordinary duties of eligible staff to facilitate their participation in the Indigenous staff mentoring program. The promotion and encouragement of relevant cultural events within the Monash community and the provision of appropriate cultural training for staff working with Indigenous Australian staff members. An Indigenous staff member will develop a performance management plan in consultation with his/her supervisor and with the participation of the Advancing Indigenous Employment Co-coordinator, where this is requested by the staff member.
