Conditions applying to grounds and gardening staff

This Part shall apply to all trades and services staff engaged as grounds and/or gardening staff.

Section 2 - Hours of Work, Breaks, Overtime, Shift Work, Weekend Work

96. Afternoon Tea Break

Staff are to take a paid 10-minute afternoon tea break. Where such break is scheduled to commence at ten minutes prior to normal finishing time for staff other than Grounds Department staff on Clayton Campus (excluding Sports and Recreation Association grounds staff), staff may elect to leave the University prior to normal finishing time either at the commencement of or during the afternoon tea break.

For Grounds Department staff on Clayton Campus (excluding Sports and Recreation Association grounds staff), the break is to commence at 3.00pm where practicable and such break may be taken at the location of the staff member's current job where:

  • there are appropriate tea-making facilities available and the staff member has the necessary permission to use those facilities; and
  • the nature of the work and any practical issues involved do not render it inappropriate.
