Apologies were received from Professor P LeP Darvall (Deputy Vice-Chancellor- Research and Development), Mr J Trembath (Assistant General Manager – Facilities and Services Division), Mr J Matthews (Assistant General Manager – Finance), Mr P Marshall (Assistant General Manager – Personnel Services), Mr A McMeekin (Executive Director – Information Technology Services Division), Mr M Robinson (Director – Information Systems), Mr V Prpich (Director – Halls of Residence), Mr K Hobbs (Faculty Manager – Faculty of information Technology) and Ms C Jordon (Registrar – Faculty of Arts).

The minutes of meeting 3/99were confirmed.

Professor Maloney advised members that Associate Professor Bob Bignall had been appointed to the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Director of Monash University Malaysia. Associate Professor Bignall will be meeting with representatives of all faculties prior to taking up his position while Marketing Services and Public Relations will be examining ways of enhancing the profile of the campus in Malaysia and the surrounding region.

Members were advised that Professor R White, Dean of the Faculty of Education had appointed to the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Monash Centre, London.

Noting that the Associate Deans – International were looking at the range of programs to be offered by the new Monash Centre, members were requested to direct all queries relating to the academic programs to Professor White while all matters relating to administration would be handled by the Office of the deputy Vice-Chancellor – International & Public Affairs.

The meeting noted Professor Maloney’s advice that as part of the further integration of international activities within Monash, Mr Ian Porter had accepted the new position of Principal Adviser, International and Government Relations and that Mr Tony Pollock had accepted the position of Executive Director, International.

This matter was raised during discussion of item 4.3.2.

The meeting was advised that significant progress had been made in establishing a Monash presence in Southern Africa. Recent developments included on-going discussions with various departments of the South African government, the development of an extensive Business Plan and on-going matters pertaining to registration as a private education provider and possible timelines for commencement of a campus.

Professor Lindsay introduced this topic by noting that many resource issues are resolved without suitable consideration of the impacts they may have on academic programs and vice-a-versa.

The next scheduled Administrative Heads Group meeting will be held on 30^th September 1999 in the Council Room.
