Meeting 5/99 of the Administrative Heads Group was be held
at 8.30am on Thursday 30 September 1999 in the Council Room, 1st
Floor, University Offices Building 3a, Clayton campus.

1. Attendance and apologies
Apologies were received from Professor J Maloney (Deputy
Vice-Chancellor – International & Public Affairs), Mr P Wade (General
Manager), Mr Ken Hobbs (Faculty Manager – Faculty of Information Technology)
Ms E Wilson (Registrar – Faculty of Law), Professor G Webb (CHED), Mr J
Campbell (Director – Sports and Recreation Centre), Mr J White (Campus
Director – Caulfield/Peninsula), Mr G Connell (Director – Internal Audit &
Risk management), Professor J Harris (CELTS) and Mr R Wortley (University

4. Vice-Chancellor’s Group
4.1 Vice-Chancellor
4.1.1 Leading the Way – Communication and Dissemination
Documents were attached.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked colleagues for their submissions
and requested that any outstanding submissions be sent to the Office of the
Vice-Chancellor.
4.1.2 Toward the Next Budget
Members were advised that Budget papers would be distributed
to Faculties and administrative units as soon as practicable.
4.1.3 Departure of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International
and Public Affairs) – interim arrangements
The Vice-Chancellor advised members that Professor JE
Maloney (Deputy Vice-Chancellor-International & Public Affairs) had decided
to return to Western Australia after two and a half years at Monash.
Interim arrangements for his portfolio of responsibilities
would be put in place with Mr Anthony Pollock assuming responsibility for
international activities, reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and Mr Stephen
Dee would report to Professor P LeP Darvall.
Further, members were advised that the new General Manager
would commence early next year and at that point the Vice-Chancellor’s Group
would undertake a review of the existing portfolios of responsibilities
where some minor changes may be made.
4.1.4 Southern Africa
The Vice Chancellor, Professor DA Robinson, advised members
that Council had overwhelmingly and enthusiastically supported the proposal
to establish a campus in Southern Africa subject to on-going due diligence
and accreditation processes.

4.4.1 Enterprise Bargaining
Professor Lindsay provided members with a report on the
status of enterprise bargaining discussions.

6.1 Indonesia
Members were advised that Monash was closely monitoring the
situation of Indonesian students studying at Monash and any Monash students
undertaking studies at Indonesian institutions.
6.2 Motor Vehicles
Mr Marshall advised members that Toyota Corollas had been
removed from the government purchasing list. Subsequent to the meeting, Mr
Marshall distributed a memorandum providing more detailed information on the
matter.
