The following extract from the unconfirmed minutes of Meeting No. 2/92 of
the Committee of Deans, held on 10 March 1992, is drawn to your attention:
15. Matters Arising from the Minutes
15.1 Enrolment
The meeting discussed at length continuing shortcomings and developmental
and design problems associated with the new student information system,
MUSIS. Arising from this discussion, the Committee agreed that:
. Associate Comptroller John White should retain oversight of the
project as a whole, reporting direct to the Vice-Chancellor;
. the Vice-Chancellor should report to the next meeting after
being briefed by Mr White;
. the Vice-Chancellor should raise the matter at the meeting of
the Academic Board being held on the following day by speaking to a
statement to be prepared by Mr White in consultation with the Registrar,
Comptroller, and one or two Deans; and
. a special meeting of the Committee should be held before the
second semester enrolment period to address any remaining problems with the
system.
The meeting also noted suggestions that a `dummy run' might be held
before second semester enrolment to help fine-tune procedures, and that the
Staff Development section might consider mounting special training courses
for MUSIS operators.

of the Committee of Deans, held on 10 March, are drawn to your attention:
16.7 Academic Staff
By way of clarification of the Vice-Chancellor's remarks at the previous
meeting, Professor Pargetter confirmed that the performance appraisal of
pre-merger Monash academic staff would fall due in the middle of the year
after the initial two-year review period. Post-merger staff would commence
their two-year review period at that time following agreement with UACA/CASA,
he said, bringing all academic staff under the same performance appraisal
procedures. Deans would be advised on what was expected of them, he said,
and Monash would remain on the exempt list with union support. Professor
Pargetter also said a review of associated staff development packages would
be commenced shortly.
The Vice-Chancellor noted and agreed to take on board a comment that
Deans should be seen to be part of the performance appraisal program.
20. Decanal Presentations to Council
The meeting approved the attached schedule of decanal
presentations to Council, D18/92.
Professor Logan said he would take up with the Chancellor a suggestion
from Professor Aspin that Council might usefully be briefed on major
research initiatives as well.

The following extract from the unconfirmed minutes of Meeting No. 2/92 of
the Committee of Deans, held on 10 March, is drawn to your attention:
17.1 Security Procedures
A requirement that security should be notified in advance of all
out-of-hours attendance on campus was considered by the Committee to be
unrealistic and unenforceable. It was agreed instead that Deans be
authorised to approve local arrangements in their own faculties.
