Committee of Deans Meeting 5-1992

The following extract from the unconfirmed minutes of Meeting No. 5/92 of the Committee of Deans, held on 12 May 1992 is drawn to your attention:

36.3 Visitors

Professor Logan said there was need for a better coordinated approach for dealing with visitors to the University. After discussion, it was agreed that members of the Executive and Deans should inform Ms Elizabeth Anderson of all forthcoming visits of important people to the University. Ms Anderson would collate this information, consult the Executive on the preparation of itineraries where appropriate, and inform members of the Executive and Deans of arrangements on at least a weekly basis.

37.2 Pharmacy College

Mr Wade advised Deans that the Pharmacy College Bill had passed successfully through both Houses of the Victorian Parliament in the previous week, which would see the College - its staff, students and assets - become part of Monash University on 1 July. It was noted that the College Director, Dr Colin Chapman, would become a member of the Committee of Deans at that time.

The following extract from the unconfirmed minutes of Meeting No. 5/92 of the Committee of Deans, held on 12 May 1992 is drawn to your attention:

38.1 Mini Super Computer

Professor Bellamy informed the meeting of an opportunity that had arisen for the University to purchase a DEC mini super computer at a 75 per cent discount price of $380,000. He said the purchase price and approximate $100,000 annual maintenance contract could be met, with some juggling, from the Computer Centre's existing budget. A largely positive response had been received from CADRES, members of the Computer Centre Committee, and potential user groups in Science, Engineering and ECOM. In view of the 18 May deadline for a decision to be made, the Committee generally endorsed the proposal subject to subsequent approval being given by the Finance Committee.
