Committee of Deans Meeting 6-1992
Memorandum to: Mr P.B. Wade
Comptroller
Committee of Deans
The following extracts from the unconfirmed minutes of Meeting No. 6/92
of the Committee of Deans, held on 2 June 1992 are drawn to your attention:
45.7 MARS Replacement
Mr Wade undertook to circulate to Deans the detailed specification that
had been drafted for the design of a new on-line financial reporting system
to replace MARS at an estimated cost of $3M prior to further consideration
of the project by the Committee of Deans.
46.4 Examination Costs
Professor Darvall questioned the basis for a request from the Student
Administration Branch of the Registrar's Department for faculties operating
on campuses other than Clayton to contribute to examination invigilation
costs amounting to some $70,000. The Comptroller confirmed the veracity of
this request in terms of the budget formulae developed at the time of the
mergers and since, and undertook to give each of the Deans involved a
breakdown of the costs for their faculties. In the face of objections
expressed by several Deans, Professor Logan agreed that there was
justification for the whole question of devolution of administrative
responsibilities to faculties to be detailed and costed.

Professor Porter, D35/92, that Professors Darvall and Rae assist him in
