A special meeting (16/98) of the Committee of Deans was held at 1.00 pm on Friday, 18th December 1998 in the Sir George Lush Room, ground floor, University Offices Building 3a, Clayton campus.

MINUTES

1. Attendance and Apologies

Apologies were received from Professor P Darvall, Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Research and Development; Mr P Wade, General Manager; Professor J Rickard, Dean – Faculty of Business and Economics; Professor J Rosenberg, Dean – Faculty of Information Technology; Professor J Redmond, Dean – Faculty of Art & Design and Professor R Davies, Dean – Faculty of Science.

In attendance was Dr K Macrae (Science), Assoc. Prof. B Hoffert (Art & Design), Ms D Lampard and Professor M Evans and Dr Gail Ellis for the item relating to LTOP.

2 Minutes

The minutes of meeting 15/98 were confirmed.

3 Learning and Teaching Operational Plan – 1999

Following discussion, the Committee approved the recommendations contained in the memorandum from Professors Lindsay and Evans, dated 14 December. The Committee was advised that the Learning and Teaching Operational Plan – 1999 would be referred to Education Committee and Academic Board.

4 Review of the format and timing of Committee meetings 1999 – Vice-Chancellor’s memo dated 2 December 1998

A copy of the Vice-Chancellor’s memorandum to Deans was attached.

The Committee endorsed the suggestions contained in the Vice-Chancellor’s memorandum and were advised that the matter would be discussed and further refined at the first meeting in 1999.

5 Other business

5.1 Confidential matter

A confidential paper was distributed to Deans. Any Deans wishing to respond to the memorandum was requested to contact the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.

6 Next meeting

The next scheduled Committee of Deans meeting will be held on 2nd February 1999 at 2.15pm in the Sir George Lush Room.
