Any matters arising were dealt with in the body of the
agenda.
4 Cross Faculty Interests
Professor Evans introduced the paper, Cross Faculty
Interests-Report on Progress: March 2001.
Professor Evans advised that the paper was a summary
report as at 8 March 2001 and that since that date further areas, such
as the Accident Research Centre, has provided more information. The
response from Faculties and organisational units of the University had
been exceptionally helpful. Professor Evans then commented on each of
the topics covered including Environment and Sustainability,
Postgraduate and Business Education, Food and Sport.
The Vice-Chancellor invited members to identify staff
who might lead initiatives in each of the identified cross-faculty
areas. Professors Parker and Chapman volunteered to jointly lead the
‘Food’ interest group. In relation to ‘Sport’ comments indicated that
this area was more complex and may need to be tied to Monash Ed
developments.
The Vice-Chancellor indicated that, at this stage, the
aim was to establish for these cross-faculty interests an appropriate
web site, compiling a list of associated courses, identifying links to
departments and key people involved and the establishment of steering
groups. It was not envisaged that EFTSU would be transferred at this
stage.
Discussion turned to identifying new topics and
Professor Evans indicated that ‘Knowledge Management’ was a possible
future interest with the Faculties of Information Technology, Business
and Economics, the Monash Institutes of Health and the Library all
having significant profiles in this area.
There was also some discussion of creativity and
innovation as a theme and as a core capability for students.
The Committee endorsed the paper, Cross Faculty
Interests Report on Progress: March 2001 and the recommendations as
presented concerning the topic of ‘Food’.
5 Corporate Brochure
A brochure was distributed. The brochure was designed to
be available to present to overseas visitors, graduate employers,
potential industry partners, community leaders and other contacts.
The Deans Discussion Group endorsed the brochure and
members agreed to prepare relevant insert sheets for incorporation.
Congratulations on its production were extended to Professor Darvall,
who had had carriage of the project.

senior officers of King’s College London, on GO8 and AVCC matters, on
