The Senior Management Committee is a high level forum which considers matters of major significance to the University, in particular those which cross or transcend academic and administrative boundaries.

To achieve its purpose, the Committee will:
Advise on or decide (as appropriate) matters relevant to the University's strategic functions, including its:
Advise on or decide (as appropriate) matters relevant to the core areas of:
Consider and provide advice to the Vice-Chancellor and members of the Vice-Chancellor's Group on any other matters brought before it.

The Committee may constitute such sub-committees as it thinks fit for the purposes of its business. Such sub-committees shall report regularly to the Committee on matters within their designated areas of responsibility.

Members are responsible for communicating information from meetings of the Committee to relevant members of staff (or students, as appropriate) in their operational areas.
|
|

|
The Committee will not ordinarily consider a matter that will go or has been to Academic Board, except where its inclusion on the Committee's agenda has been recommended by the Board or members of the Vice-Chancellor's Group.

The operational focus of the Senior Management Committee distinguishes it from the Committee of Deans, a high-level advisory body which discusses matters of current or future strategy or policy. Although the focus of the two groups differs, connections between them will occur where a proposal arising from a strategic discussion or policy debate in the Committee of Deans comes to the Senior Management Committee for consideration and decision.
