RECOMMENDATION:
That Education Committee:
having considered the current graduate attributes as contained in Leading the Way – Monash 2020 and the Learning and Teaching Plan, and the re-cast set of attributes as proposed in the Second Progress Report of the Working Party on Graduate Attributes, determine the appropriate set of graduate attributes for Monash University (for transmission to Academic Board);
endorse the proposal that the graduate attributes may be optionally presented in either a narrative format or a non-narrative (listed) format, as illustrated in the example formats provided in the Second Progress Report of the Working Group on Graduate Attributes; and
give initial consideration to the development of a more detailed description of:
what is entailed in each of the core graduate attributes. See the detail provided in the Second Progress Report of the Working Group on Graduate Attributes (refer to the first page of the report and the left-hand side column of the table included in the report); and
how the core graduate attributes can be embedded in the Monash curriculum, as suggested in:
a) the Second Progress Report of the Working Group on Graduate Attributes; and
b) the memorandum from Associate Professor A Farley, Associate Dean Teaching, representative of the Faculty of Business and Economics lead site activity on graduates’ life-long learning skills and attributes.

At Education Committee Meeting 4/99, during discussion about a proposal for the establishment of a new course, a question was posed to the Committee for future consideration about whether a certain component of assessment, both for distance education and on-campus study, should be invigilated. Responses from each faculty about what (if any) policy their faculty maintains in relation to invigilated assessment are included in the attached document to provide the basis for the Committee’s consideration of this matter.
RECOMMENDATION:
That Education Committee give consideration to the question of whether a certain component of assessment, both for distance education and on-campus study, should be invigilated.

This course is jointly offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Science. The amendments to these two subjects have also been endorsed by the Board of the Faculty of Business and Economics (refer agenda item 7.4).
RECOMMENDATION:
