1.3

Duration of term

1 year or until Membership Committee and Council have considered and approved revised memberships.

Each year Councillors are invited to nominate for membership of Committees of Council. Nominations are considered by Membership Committee and recommendations on membership forwarded to Council for its consideration.

1.4

Co-option of members

The Committee may not co-opt members.


2. Terms of reference
2.1

To advise Council, Academic Board and Strategy and Resources Committee on the adoption of policies, revision to policies and strategies, which will enable the University to provide equality of opportunity in education and employment, including the provision of equity planning and the fulfilment of affirmative action objectives.

2.2 To monitor and advise on the effectiveness of policies and programs to promote equal opportunity for disadvantaged groups in education and employment.
2.3 To monitor and advise on the implementation of the University’s equal opportunity policy in the University’s employment procedures and practices.
2.4 To monitor and advise on the implementation of the University’s equal opportunity policy in the University’s educational procedures and practices, particularly as they relate to admissions, assessment and the provision of student services.

3. Meetings
3.1 Frequency of meetings
To meet at least quarterly.
3.2 Quorum
Given the number of members is ten the quorum is four.

4. Reporting to Council
Following each meeting the Committee shall submit a written report to the next meeting of Council.

5.  Subcommittees of Equal Opportunity Committee  
  5.1 Titles of Subcommittees
   

The subcommittees of Equal Opportunity Committee are currently:

  5.2 Terms of reference and membership of Subcommittees
    The purpose of Subcommittees is to assist Equal Opportunity Committee to fulfill its terms of reference therefore Equal Opportunity Committee can approve each subcommittees terms of reference and membership.
  5.3 Appointment of Chairs of Subcommittees
    The Vice-Chancellor shall nominate a Chair for each subcommittee.
  5.4 Quorum
    The quorum for each meeting of a subcommittee shall be in accordance with the Meetings (standing committee of Council) regulations.
  5.5 Report to Equal Opportunity Committee
    Following each meeting of a subcommittee a written report shall be submitted to the next meeting of Equal Opportunity Committee.
