Standing Committee of Council

1. Membership
  1.1 Appointment of Chair
    The membership of the Committee shall elect a Chair at the first meeting each year.
  1.2 Method of determining membership of Membership Committee
    Membership is determined via a call for nominations from Councillors and where the number of nominations exceed the number of vacancies then a ballot of Councillors is to be held.

  1.4 Duration of term
    Members are elected for two year terms or for the term of their appointment to Council, whichever is shorter.
  1.5 Co-option of members
    The Membership Committee may co-opt one member external to the University who is not a member of Council.
 
2. Terms of reference
2.1 To recommend criteria for the selection and the performance assessment of members of Council.
2.2

To recommend procedures for identification and selection of members.

2.3 To recommend new members.
2.4 To oversee the development and maintenance of an induction program for new members.
2.5 To assess performance of members.
2.6 To use its best endeavours to reach a unanimous decision and bring forward to Council a single candidate for the position of Chancellor when that position is due to be filled.
2.7

Following a call for nominations, and ballot of Council Members (if necessary), bring forward to Council one name for each vacant position of Deputy Chancellor.  The outcome of any ballot to be decided by "first past the post".

2.8 Following a call for nominations for membership of all Council Committees, Membership Committee is to consider nominations and provide recommendations on Committee Membership to Council for its consideration.

3. Meetings
3.1 Frequency of meetings
As required however the first meeting of the year should be held prior to the first meeting of Council in order to finalise membership of Committees of Council.
3.2 Quorum

Given the number of members is seven, the quorum is four.

 4. Reporting to Council  
  Following each meeting, the Committee shall submit a written report to the next meeting of Council.
