Duration of term

1 year or until Membership Committee and Council have considered and approved revised memberships.

Each year Councillors are invited to nominate for membership of Committees of Council. Nominations are considered by Membership Committee and recommendations on membership forwarded to Council for its consideration.

Co-option of members

The Committee may not co-opt members.


2. Terms of reference
2.1

To consider and approve, on behalf of Council, proposals for:

  • Conferral of the title of Emeritus Professor.
  • Conferral of the title of Professorial Fellow.
  • Appointment to non-advertised professorships, for periods greater than one year, including honorary appointments.
  • Appointment to Sir Louis Matheson Distinguished Visiting Professorships.
  • Establishment of named professorships.
  • Advancement of research-only academic staff members to Level E research positions.
2.2 To provide Council with regular consolidated reports of such appointments as above.
2.3 To consider and recommend, to the Vice-Chancellor, proposals for appointment to Sir John Monash Distinguished Professorships.

3. Meetings
3.1 Frequency of meetings
As required. In circumstances where it is not possible to convene a meeting of the committee to consider an urgent proposal, the proposal may be sent by mail circulation to all members of the committee for consideration.
3.2 Quorum
Given the number of Members is nine, the quorum is four however attendance must include no fewer than two of the four external Council members who are members of the Committee.

4. Reporting to Council
Following each meeting the Committee shall submit a written report to the next meeting of Council.
