APC
|
The Academic Progress Committee is constituted of members of the Faculty Board, academic staff of the Faculty and one student member. Considers whether the student can continue study in the course or Faculty at an exclusion hearing.

|
De novo hearing
|
Where a student has appealed to the EAC and there are prima facie grounds on the ground of procedural irregularity, and the appeal is allowed, the case is referred back to the APC to hear the matter as if it were a first hearing by a new APC, made of entirely new members.

Double degree student
|
A student enrolled in a single candidature of an approved course of study which leads to the award of two degrees.

|
Exclusion Appeals Committee of Academic Board is constituted from a panel established by the Academic Board. Students excluded by the faculty APC process can appeal to the EAC on the ground of new evidence and/or procedural irregularity.

Exclusion
|
Where the a student is not allowed to re-enrol in the course or Faculty after failing to meet the academic requirements of the Faculty .

Law Chair
|
The Chair of the EAC is the member from the Faculty of Law. An appeal to the EAC is referred to the Law Chair, who must determine whether or not there are prima facie grounds for the appeal.

New evidence
|
Evidence that was not reasonably available to the student concerned at the time of the faculty hearing.

Notice of Referral
|
A faculty’s request to students to provide reasons, in writing and/or before an academic progress committee, as to why they should not be excluded.

Prima facie
|
Sufficient evidence to establish a case.

|
|
Procedural irregularity
|
Failure on the part of the faculty to comply with the requirements of Statute 6.2, the Regulations made pursuant to Statute 6.2 or the Faculty Academic Progress Committee Functions and Procedures.

|
Re hearing
|
Where a student has appealed to the EAC and there are prima facie grounds on the ground of new evidence, the appeal is referred back to the faculty APC to be re-heard as if it were an original hearing, with the same committee membership as the original hearing. Also includes student applications to the Dean that are successful and are referred back to the APC to be re-heard.

Serving of notice
|
University correspondence must be served on a student personally or by express post, registered mail or international courier to the mailing address of the student in the records of the University.

Unsatisfactory progress
|
Inability to meet the faculty’s academic progress requirements and, consequently, the university's expectations of achievement in units of study.
