Business Strategy

The Business Strategy team is a part of the Office of Vice-President (Finance). The team plays an integral role in providing financial and strategic support for the University's major strategic investment decision making. The Business Strategy team's main activities include:

Business case/plans development and evaluation of major new strategic initiatives, including:

  • New education or research activities
  • Licensing arrangements
  • Joint venture projects
  • International partnerships
  • Building works proposals.

Examples: IITB-Monash Research Academy, EIF Projects - New Horizons, Green Chemical Futures.

Strategic reviews of subsidiaries, affiliated organisations, campus or faculty performance/structure, including:

  • Major issues/problems
  • International partnerships/operations
  • Subsidiaries performance/structure.

Examples: Operational review of Monash College, business case analysis and review of strategic directions Malaysia Medical School and review of the service model for Animal Services.

Identification/evaluation and implementation of opportunities for major operational efficiency performance improvement, including:

  • Shared services for corporate support functions
  • Process re-engineering.

Examples: ICT Shared Services Review and the Financial Services Enhancement Project.

Development of tools & templates to facilitate skills development and encourage financial rigour in decision making:

  • Financial modelling
  • Business case modelling
  • Options/scenario analysis.
