Role of Finance

Finance roles within the University have been devolved to the faculties and divisions, these Contact are supported by seven central finance divisions reporting to the Vice President (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer, David Pitt.

Business Strategy

Director: Loren Miller
  • Undertakes business review projects including strategic analysis of financial operations
  • Conducts business analysis to support strategic initiatives, University decision making and operational performance improvement and efficiencies
  • Manages supplier arrangements for commonly used goods and services and large scale procurement projects
  • Supports the implementation of finance service delivery strategies

    Strategic Procurement

  • Provides University-wide leadership on Strategic Procurement issues
  • Develops and communicates clear, simple procurement processes and ensures high probity standards
  • Provides customers with service excellence
  • Manages suppliers, customers and processes to achieve best value for money in all aspects of procurement
  • Provides a leadership position on sustainable procurement issues for the higher education sector

Corporate Finance

Director: David McWaters
  • Manages the University's accounting policies, tax compliance and external financial reporting obligations
  • Provides advice on the accounting treatment, tax implications and financial result impacts of complex business proposals/transactions
  • Provides a range of research accounting services to the University including project costing and financial management.
  • Revenue management services relating to sundry receivables

Financial Resources Management

Director: Reynold Dias
  • Development of the budget for the university
  • Assists in student load planning and monitoring
  • Fees and pricing policy management and advice
  • Management of the University's insurance programmes
  • Legal compliance for the Insurance Contracts Act and Customs Act
  • Finance systems maintenance, reporting and monitoring
  • Web services and reporting
  • Executive reporting

Major Projects

Director: Jessica Lightfoot

The Major Projects office is responsible for managing complex projects involving multi-stakeholder dimensions and significant financial investment from the University. Major Projects reports to the Vice President (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer. However it supports University initiatives across all portfolios. It is responsible for managing strategic initiatives with complex financial and legal dimensions which require analysis of value leveraging and risk management. Major Projects takes a lead in:

  • Commercial and legal aspects of negotiations
  • Portfolio value analysis
  • Risk assessment
  • Financial assessment
  • Management of multiple stakeholder interests.


Treasurer: Geoff Murray
  • Manages the University's investment portfolios, borrowings and foreign exchange transactions
  • Manages the University's transactional banking relationships
  • Assists with the monitoring and management of the University's cash-flows
  • Manages and provides advice to faculties and departments on investment of grants funds, donations and bequests
  • Manages and provides advice to faculties and departments on foreign currency exposures



Purchase to Payment services

Director: Justine Waddick
  • Assist staff with the purchasing process from ordering to receipting.
  • Manages  invoices,  vendor queries and staff reimbursements
  • Manages stores facilities inventories and asset management
