Accelerated Increments (HEW 1 – 9)
General staff members (HEW 1 – 9) may receive an accelerated increment within their HEW level in cases where it can be clearly demonstrated by the supervisor that the staff member has consistently exceeded the agreed performance level.
The performance management supervisor is required to write a memo clearly demonstrating that the staff member has consistently exceeded the agreed performance level. This memo is then sent to the Academic Head for consideration. If the Academic Head agrees that the staff member has been consistently performing above their agreed performance level, the Academic Head is required to sign the memo and then send it to HR Operations for processing.
The Academic Head must not agree to the accelerated increment if the administrative unit does not have the capacity to fund such payments from within existing resources.
