As part of a strategic approach to senior leadership and management development at Monash, and in response to issues raised at the annual Academic Heads Conference, an Academic Heads' Network was convened in 2007.

The purpose of the Academic Heads' Network is:

  1. to support academic heads in their leadership and management roles by sharing good practice, drawing on the experience of the University and the group to solve common problems, and
  2. to provide an opportunity to network in an informal environment.

A model of operation for the Network was formulated by the Academic Heads' Network Convenor Panel which currently comprises:

  • Professor Kerry Hourigan (Director, Division of Biological Engineering, Faculty of Engineering) CHAIR
  • Associate Professor Jonathan Clough (Associate Dean Education, Faculty of Law)
  • Professor Mike Ewing (Head, Department of Marketing, Faculty of Business & Economics)
  • Associate Professor Louise Farnworth (Head, Department of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences)
  • Associate Professor Helen Forgasz (Associate Dean Education, Faculty of Education)
  • Professor Rob Pike (Head, School of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science)
  • Mr Diego Ramirez (Head, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture)
  • Dr Judy Sheard (Head, Caulfield School of IT)
  • Associate Professor Rita Wilson (Head, School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, Faculty of Arts)

Please note: As the convenor panel is lean, members are expected to attend the quarterly meetings regularly.

For relevance and sustainability, the Network is owned by its membership, which includes heads and deputy heads of school and department, campus-based heads of faculty, directors of academic units and directors of research, deputy deans and associate deans.
