How to access ESS

Access to ESS is available via https://eservices.monash.edu.au/ess/

Important browser information

To operate ESS successfully you must access it through Internet Explorer or Firefox.  You cannot use ESS through Netscape Navigator.

ESS currently only officially supports the following browsers: Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 (in compatibility view only), Firefox2.x, 3.x

Firefox Browser Settings

Some Firefox users experience problems accessing ESS and this is primarily due to default browser settings.  To overcome this problem we recommend that you follow the process below:

  1. Open Firefox and select Options from the Tools menu
  2. Select the Content icon and ensure that the Block Pop-Up Windows option is selected and click on Exceptions
  3. Type eservices.monash.edu.au under Address of web site and click on Allow
  4. Close this box and click on Tabs icon
  5. Ensure that the option for New pages should be opened in: a new window is selected and click OK
  6. Log off before attempting to use ESS again

Note that your current settings may effect how dates are displayed within ESS.  If the day and month are transposed you will need to change the browser settings:

  1. Open Firefox and select Options from the Tools menu
  2. Select the Advanced icon and then click on the General Tab
  3. In the Language section click the Choose button
  4. In the ‘Languages in order of preference’ box you need to move the English/United Kingdom [en-gb] option to the top of the list by using the Move Up or Move Down buttons
  5. Click on OK once complete
  6. Log off before attempting to use ESS again

Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network)

In order to access ESS from home or outside the university you must install VPN (Virtual Private Network) software and obtain a Personal Digital Certificate.

Creating an ESS Internet Explorer Short-cut

For easy access to ESS through Internet Explorer complete the following instructions on your PC.

Downloading an ESS short-cut

Instruction
1. Left click to this link: ESS Shortcut (or right click if you are currently using Netscape)
2. "Save Target As" or "Save Link As" (in drop down or pop up box)
3. Change the destination to "Desktop" and click "Save"
4. When "Download Complete" click "Close"
5. Check your desktop for a new Internet Explorer icon marked "ESS"
