Part VB Statutory LicenceThe statutory licence in Part VB of the Copyright Act 1968 (as amended) allows universities to copy and communicate print and graphic works for educational purposes of the university, or another university which has issued a remuneration notice to CAL. Part VB covers all copying of print and graphic works -photocopying, copying to slides, microfiche or overhead transparencies, scanning into electronic form and copying from the web- provided the copying is for educational purposes and otherwise complies with the strict rules set out in the Act and the Regulations.
The limits applying to how much of a work can be copied or communicated in reliance on the Part VB licence are set out in detail in the Guidelines on Print and Graphic Copying and Communication available at Guidelines for text and graphic (PDF) Guidelines for text and graphic (RTF) An electronic use notice must be given on behalf of the University, in respect of licensed copies made in electronic form (eg CD-Rom) or licensed communications. The notice given must be in accordance with the Copyright Regulations. IMPORTANT: The licence in Part VB permits the University to make only ONE part of a publication available online at any one time. No other part of that work may be made available at the same time. In order for the University to ensure that it is compliant, copyright material must only be made available online by the Library's Readings and Reserve Services. The Unit will attend to the electronic use notice and will ensure that that the reproduction does not remain available online beyond the prescribed period. The new strict limit does not apply to journal articles. All reasonable steps must be taken to ensure that material electronically communicated in reliance on the Part VB licence can be accessed only by students enrolled in the relevant unit, and staff of the university or of another Australian university. |
