First Aid Training

Monash University conducts first aid courses for staff and students across all campuses to ensure qualified first aiders are available to provide emergency first aid if required.

Whilst courses have been primarily scheduled for Caulfield, Clayton, Berwick, Parkville and Peninsula, staff from other campuses can attend one of the scheduled courses.  OHS can arrange site specific training where necessary, however, there must be a minumum of 10 participants.

List of first aid training available in 2009:-

• First Aid Level 1 - Basis Life Support
• First Aid Level 2 - Senior First Aid
• First Aid Level 2 - Senior First Aid mixed mode - OHS has introduced an online training module (mixed mode) as part of the Level 2 training.  This mixed mode Level 2 training course is most suited for participants who are renewing their Level 2 certificate.  (Online theory component must be completed prior to the practical day or else participants will be unable to attend).

• First Aid Information Session
• Mental Health First Aid
• Epi Pen training/Anaphylaxis Management

Hepatitis B

In order to minimise risk, staff who undertake a first aid course and act as Monash University first aiders are expected to undergo a Hepatitis B Immunisation course, paid for by their department. Defibrillation training

Training in using a defib is covered in Level 1 and Level 2 first aid and in CPR refresher courses.

Course Materials

All participants will receive course notes and a certificate.

During courses, participants will have the use of class sets of bandages, resource manuals, and manikins on a ratio of a maximum of 1 manikin per 3 participants.
