Training for Staff in Occupational Health and Safety Roles

All staff with occupational health and safety responsibilities are required to attend various occupational health and safety training courses offered through occupational health and safety and various external organizations. Details regarding training requirements for staff with occupational health and safety roles are provided below.

Health & Safety Representatives

Health and safety representatives are required to attend a minimum of 2 days occupational health and safety training per year in order to effectively fulfill their occupational health and safety roles.

Newly appointed health and safety representatives are also required to attend the 5 day Health and Safety Representative course offered by various external providers.

Courses to be attended by Health and Safety Representatives are as follows:

Health and Safety Representative Training Course (5 days)
Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety Training (1 day training program incorporating the following 4 separate courses). Please note, health and safety representatives are required to complete all courses.
- Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures (1 hour)
- Hazard and Incident Management (1.5 hours)
- Risk Management Workshop (1.5 hours)
- Workplace Safety Inspections (1.5 hours)
Prevention of Bullying and Occupational Violence at Monash (1 hour)

Safety Officers

Safety Officers are required to attend a minimum of 2 days occupational health and safety training per year in order to effectively fulfill their occupational health and safety roles.

Newly appointed Safety Officers are required to attend the following Occupational Health and Safety training courses in the first 6 months of their appointment:

Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety (1 day training program incorporating the following 4 separate courses):
- Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures (1 hour)
- Hazard and Incident Management (1.5 hours)
- Risk Management Workshop (1.5 hours)
- Workplace Safety Inspections (1.5 hours)
Emergency Warden Training and Evacuation (1 hour)
Prevention of Bullying and Occupational Violence at Monash (1 hour)

Zone Committee Members

It is recommended that Zone Committee members attend the following Occupational Health and Safety training courses in the first 12 months of their appointment:

Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety (1 day training program incorporating 4 separate courses). Attendance at the following 3 courses is highly recommended.
- Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures (1 hour)
- Risk Management Workshop (1.5 hours)
- Workplace Safety Inspections (1.5 hours)
