Sharmaine Squire's Itinerary
Sharmaine Squire from Marketing and Student Recruitment has recently had 2 family members affected by cancer and felt compelled to do something to honour her family members.
In September this year Sharmaine is participating in the Great Wall of ChinaTrek for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
DAY 1 Sunday, 28 September
DAY 2 Monday, 29 September

Arrive Beijing. Afternoon at leisure

Arrive in Beijing early morning. On arrival in Beijing you will be metat the airport (if arriving on the groupflight) and transferred by mini bus to the group hotel. This day is freefor you to explore Beijing. We will meet in the evening for a welcome dinner and group briefing.
DAY 3 Tuesday, 30 September

Trekking at Badaling, Shiguan and Juyongguan Pass sections of the Wall
-
After breakfast at the hotel we leave at about 8am for the BadalingSection of the Wall. Today it is one of themost famous sections of the wall and has the crowds to show for it! Westop for a short one and a half hourwalk on this section of the wall before being transferred to a less busysection of the wall, Shiguan (WaterGate). We explore this section of the wall before we head to a local restaurant for lunch.

After lunch we will be transferred to another section of the wall, Juyongguan Pass where wewill go trekking for a further 2hours. Juyongguan Pass Wall is one of the greatest passes located in the18-kilometre long Guangu valley. Juyongguan is a tough section that is very steep in places, with a‘Cloud Platform’ made of white marble in the middle.

In the late afternoon, we return to our hotel to freshen up and enjoy a delicious dinner.
DAY 4 Wednesday, 1 October

Trekking Huanghuacheng Great Wall
-
After breakfast we are transferred to the Huanghuacheng Section of theWall. When summer comes, theentire village under the Huanghuacheng Great Wall is immersed in a seaof yellow wild flowers ('Yellowflower' is 'huanghua' in Chinese). Consequently, this village got thename Hunghuacheng, and this section ofthe Great Wall is called Huanghuacheng Great Wall. Here we trek theancient wall gaining spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and lakes.
DAY 5 Thursday, 2 October

Trekking Mutianyu

We have breakfast at the hotel, check out and leave by 8am.

We transfer to Mutianyu, watching local subsistence farmers working the fields along the way.

We ascend to the wall entrance and trek west. Thiswas one of the first sections of the wall to be recognised as a UNESCOWorld Heritage Site. Our goal is toreach Tower 14 in less than two and a half hours. Those looking for achallenge have the option to continue from the eastern point with a guide.

After a late lunch, we head back to the town with time to purchasesouvenirs.
DAY 6 Friday, 3 October

Early transfer to Gubeikou.

Commence trek to Jinshanling
-
We have an early breakfast before checking out of our hotel. We will bemet for our transfer to Gubeikouwhere we start our trek to Jinshanling. This day walk along the GreatWall takes in a spectacular sectiontowards Jinshanling. It is a combination of wall walking and localtrails that leads us into the quiet village of Jinshanling where we are met by out bus and transferred to Simatai.
DAY 7 Saturday, 4 October

Trekking Jinshanling to Simatai Great Wall

This morning we are transferred back to Jinshanling and we commence ourtrek to Simatai Great Wallsection, which will take approximately four to five hours. This sectionof the wall is one of the most stunningsites of our adventure; it divides Mongolia and China and is referred to as Wild Wall territory.

In the afternoon, we enjoy unbelievable views of over 130 watchtowers simultaneously.

We check into our hotel, which has stunning views of the wall and refresh ready to meet for our evening meal.
DAY 8 Sunday, 5 October

Simatai Great Wall.

Return to Beijing
-
After breakfast we complete our final section on Simatai Great Wall, asteep and very rewarding two and a half hour trek.

After a light lunch we transfer to Beijing.

In the evening, we attend the incredible Peking Acrobatics.
DAY 9 Monday, 6 October

Sightseeing in Beijing
-
The next morning we explore the many interesting sites of Beijing,including Tian’anmen Square and theawesome Forbidden City. We also have the opportunity to take a rickshawaround Hutongs, the traditional courtyard areas of Beijing.

After lunch, we explore the markets — particularly the silk markets, where we can get a few bargains.

In the evening we enjoy our final celebratory dinner of traditional Peking Duck!
DAY 10 Tuesday, 7 October

Depart Beijing

This is our final morning in Beijing.

We check out and have breakfast
-
The rest of the morning is free for somelast minute shopping or to do some final sightseeing of Beijing beforewe are transferred to the airport in the early afternoon for our flight home.
