WHAM (Wellbeing Happens at Monash) - 2006

10,000 Steps Challenge

The 10,000 steps challenge commenced on Monday, 23rd October with a virtual walk "on the western wild side " from sunny Perth to beautiful Broome, which finishes on the 26th November.

More than 140 teams, (approximately 1100 participants) across all Monash campuses, will be clipping on their pedometers and dusting off their walking shoes today, to participant in the 5 week challenge.

Some teams may well finish before the 26th November.  However, no matter where your team finishes, remember, everyone who takes part is a winner!

Points to Remember:

1. Put on your pedometers - from the time you wake up to the time your feet hit the bed at night!

2. Put on your hat, apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water as you take in the sights on your daily walks.

3. Log  your steps each day at the 10000 steps website by entering the 10000 steps website at www.10000steps.org.au and entering your email address and password in the 'step log' box and then clicking on 'login'.  This will bring up a page titled Daily Steps Entry .  You can then log the number of steps you have walked in the box titled 'steps walked' or, you can also log different activities - ie cycling by simply clicking on the box titled 'Extra Activities'.  This will then bring up a screen which will allow you to add your other activities by the amount of time or kms.  ie you can add 30 minutes in the 'moderate activity' box, or the 'Vigorous activity' box or you can add the number of kms you have cycled in the 'Distance' box.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you do not have time to enter your steps on a daily basis, please enter them by noon on Monday of the following week.

4. Progress of all teams can be viewed by logging into the 10000 steps website (as above), and under the heading 'Your workplace' click on 'workplace team stats'.

5. For those teams who finish early, they should just continue to log their steps - do not start a new challenge.  The website will continue to log team steps as normal even after the challenge is completed.
