Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some frequently asked questions with regards to Employee Closed Tender Process owned vehicles are listed below

Q: I am an honorary/research staff, am I able to bid on the vehicles?

A: Yes, honorary and research staff are able to bid on the vehicles.

Q: Is the vehicle available for RACV to do a vehicle inspection if I decide to place a bid?

A: No it is not available for RACV inspection as the time constraint of the current least cost process does not allow for this. Vehicles are identified as available for purchase on Tuesday afternoon and then removed to the auctioneer's site in Altona for cleaning and detailing on Thursday, leaving only Wednesday for inspection and only one hour on Wednesday with access to the vehicle, as controlled by the Facilities and Services staff at the Transport compound of the campus where the vehicle was deployed.

Q: Can a staff put in a bid in for multiple vehicles available at the time? For example if there are five cars available, put in a bid for each with the chance of getting one. If so, what happens if a staff is successful with multiple bids but is only interested in just one vehicle?

A: We do not encourage multiple bids for the process as it is unfair for other buyers. Please note that we turnover approx 4-5 vehicles a week so there is no shortage of vehicles for tender.

We encourage that staff only placegenuine bids, at market value and only on the vehicle they are interested in. This ensures that the process is fair for all. If it happens that staff have placed multiple bids and are successful. They win all, like any other auction process.

Q: What are the locations of the transport compounds?

A:

Clayton – Next to building 56 (Campus Map B3)
Caulfield – Building A (Campus Map B3)

Q: When does this process end?

A: This is an ongoing project for the University

Q: I would like to know whether these vehicles for auction come with current registration and RWC?

A: In general, yes. However, since our registrations are done in bulk, vehicles that become available near August will need to have the registrations renewed.

Q: I don’t think I can make the viewing time (Wednesday 11-12pm), am I able to view it tomorrow?

A: Sorry but viewing is only on Wednesdays from 11-12pm. This is due to the time constraint of the current least cost process which does not allow for any other viewing time. Vehicles are identified as available for purchase on Tuesday afternoon and then removed to the auctioneer's site in Altona for cleaning and detailing on Thursday, leaving only Wednesday for inspection and only one hour on Wednesday with access to the vehicle. This is controlled by the Facilities and Services staff at the Transport compound of the campus where the vehicle was deployed.
