Helen Clements

Helen Clements' contribution to the university community extends beyond her role as assistant to the dean of Law.

Having grown up in Melbourne's south-east, Helen took up a position as secretary at AMP, where she found herself, coincidentally, working alongside Bev Olbrich, who is now convenor of Monash's Administrative Support Staff Network (ASSN).

Helen then took 17 years out of the paid workforce to raise a family. During this time, and encouraged by her academic husband, John, to pursue further education, Helen completed her primary teaching qualificatiom, but a lack of primary teaching opportunities encouraged her to seek part-time employment at Monash. She has since worked in the faculties of Business and Economics, Education and Law.

A highlight of Helen's time at Monash was a three-day residential workshop on change management, which was the catalyst for increasing her career and community involvements, such as her participation in ASSN. Again working with Bev Olbrich, and other ASSN committee members, Helen helps organise events and speakers and, more recently, a fitness class for over 40s under the leadership of Val Worrell.

Believing that education "adds a wonderful dimension to your life", Helen is now also studying for her Graduate Diploma in Education to teach English to speakers of other languages.

At home in Mount Waverley, Helen enjoys her family and pet dog Ruffy, and belongs to a local community environmental group.
