Christopher Ziguras

Having explored many diverse career options, research fellow Dr Christopher Ziguras brings a good deal of outside experience to his academic work in the Faculty of Education.

Originally from Cardross near Mildura, Chris came to live in Melbourne at the age of six. After finishing secondary school, he spent two years backpacking around the world, and later gained an honours degree in social theory and political science from the University of Melbourne.

From 1993 to 1999, Chris earned his PhD at Monash, with a thesis on the politics of self-care promotion. During this time, he also undertook various professional writing projects and held several university teaching positions.

Chris regards his career highlight to date as writing a short promotional film for the Mildura Visitors' Centre. Chris is proud that the film, about his hometown, won an international award.

It is just one of several awards Chris has won in his field of expertise - social education through electronic media. His short-term aspirations are to publish a couple of books on the subject and to contribute to public debate.

In the long term, Chris would like to live overseas and dabble in documentary film production, where he feels he could translate his academic work into a more accessible, popular medium.

An enthusiastic learner, Chris has enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, is learning Italian and is contemplating studying Indonesian.
