Leeora Black

Working part time in the Department of Marketing at Berwick campus suits assistant lecturer Leeora Black. It enables her to work in a field she loves while raising twins, running a consultancy business and studying.

Since gaining an arts degree from the University of Melbourne 20 years ago, Leeora has held a number of positions in journalism and public relations, including teaching at RMIT and corporate training roles. For the last 11 years, she has also run her own public relations consultancy.

After the birth of her children in 1997, however, Leeora felt the need to change direction. Academe offered her an intellectual challenge she felt was missing in the business world, and she is now undertaking her Master of Business (Marketing) by research.

Being both a lecturer and student has given Leeora a broad perspective on teaching and learning. "I love the practical problem-solving aspects of PR," she says. "And there is a real sense of joy in watching students develop, graduate and embark upon their new careers."

Leeora sees exciting new trends influencing the discipline, including the development of the internet and a growing concern with ethics and corporate citizenship.

At home in Caulfield, Leeora's interests revolve around her family, reading and keeping fit.
