Milestone for Monash cricketerMonash University Cricket Club records were rewritten earlier this month by Physics department deputy head Associate Professor Trevor Finlayson. In a match between Monash and Old Carey, Associate Professor Finlayson passed an aggregate of 5000 runs - the highest run aggregate by any cricketer who has played for Monash since records were first kept by the Monash University Cricket Club in the 1972/73 season. Since joining Monash in 1972, Associate Professor Finlayson has played every season for the club, with the exception of the occasional interruption for an overseas study program. He also played 30 games for Monash during his time as a PhD student in the 1960s, but club records from this period have been lost. Since 1972, he has played 255 games and has batted on 271 occasions. His aggregate, at an average of 22 runs per dismissal, includes four centuries, with a highest score of 124, and one 99 n.o, when the last batsman was dismissed first ball. Associate Professor Finlayson also boasts a fine record as a wicket keeper, with 316 dismissals. And just for the records, club statistics show him to have a bowling average of 20.6 from 78 overs, having taken 15 wickets for 309 runs. |
