Andrew Kvackaj

Andrew Kvackaj has grown in his job as assistant manager of the Monash gymnasium along with Sports and Recreation itself.

Kotch, as he is known, started at the centre 11 years ago while studying for his Bachelor of Applied Science in Physical Education. At that time, Sports and Recreation occupied relatively modest premises and offered a commensurate range of services. Since then however, Monash's fitness facilities have expanded into a modern complex servicing 2600 financial members both from within and outside of Monash.

Kotch enjoys the mix of hands-on and administrative work his job involves, including taking fitness classes and doing fitness assessments, individualised instruction and staff training, as well as administrative work.

But it is the 'people aspect' of his work that initially attracted Kotch and continues to give him the most satisfaction. He says he has found that "developing good relationships with clients is the key factor to things running smoothly". An added bonus at Monash is the diversity of the people he meets.

Kotch balances his commitment to Sports and Recreation with a full life away from work. He plays basketball and Aussie rules and is planning a trip to Slovakia later in the year to meet his relatives there.
