Manager
of Print Services at Caulfield campus Gerard Brick describes himself as "the
concepts person" for the delivery of printing services to all Monash's campuses.
Ironically, Gerard got into printing by accident. After deferring university studies, he took his first job in printing and has never looked back. He has since worked his way through the industry from the ground up, and believes that anyone can do it "if they have a bit of nous".
In the early 1990s, Gerard was seconded to restructure the federal government's Instant Print and Copy Centres with a view to corporatisation. He ended up as state manager for the Victorian office of the Australian Government Printing Services.
In 1996, Gerard landed his current job at Monash, with a brief to modernise and organise print services to meet the needs of all campuses, including building the business and introducing digital technology.
Gerard identifies his career highlight as working with a cohesive team at Monash who provide him with great job satisfaction.
With twin boys, one of whom is named after friend Kieran Dickson in Personnel Services, family plays a big part in Gerard's life. He generally spends his summers as team manager for the MCC third 11s, and has also been a volunteer fundraiser for Victorian Heart Kids and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
