Information Technology dean Professor John Rosenberg is one of a select number of IT industry and education leaders recently appointed to the Victorian Government's Information and Communications Technology Skills Task Force. The task force will provide advice to the government on the strategies necessary to address gaps in IT skills. It will also raise issues of importance to the development of Victoria's IT industry, which will allow the state government to represent the interests of Victorian industry to the Commonwealth. On the educational front, it will recommend appropriate mechanisms for creating and regenerating the IT skills base, including the use of accelerated training programs, university and TAFE programs and skills migration initiatives. Professor Rosenberg said he was very happy to be a part of the taskforce. "Our ability to solve the IT skills gap will be the most critical factor determining the growth of the Australian information sector, and the task force is addressing this very important issue," he said.
