Dr
Jan Kolm, a long-time supporter of research at Monash, was admitted to the
degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa at a recent graduation ceremony.
Dr Kolm began his association with the university in 1974, when he was appointed chairman of the Patent Committee, a position he held for 21 years. He was also vice-chairman of the Monash commercialisation company, Montech, for 14 years and a member of the University Council between 1985 and 1998.
Dr Kolm played a leading role in the university's activities in intellectual property protection and commercialisation, laying the foundation for the establishment of what is now the Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Committee.
Dr Kolm was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1983 for services to science and to industry
