Inaugural John Lane scholarship

The inaugural John Lane Memorial Scholarship was presented recently to Ms Wendy Watson by the Board of Trustees of the Monash University Accident Research Foundation.

The scholarship was established by the Foundation (set up by the university to support the work of the Monash University Accident Research Centre) to honour both the pioneering work of Dr John Lane AM, in the field of injury prevention and in recognition of the high esteem with which he was held by MUARC staff.

Ms Watson will undertake her PhD research with the centre on the 'Development of an Injury Cost and Consequence Model - Health Sector and Patient Costs'.

Congratulating Ms Watson on the award, MUARC director Professor Claes Tingvall said he believed her work would make an outstanding contribution to the centre's research.

At the presentation of the John Lane Memorial Scholarship were, from left, director of MUARC Professor Claes Tingvall; inaugural scholarship winner Ms Wendy Watson; deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Peter Darvall; Mrs Lucy Lane, widow of John Lane; chair of the Accident Research Foundation Mr Ted Johnson; Accident Research Foundation trustee Mr Philip Molyneux, and founding director of MUARC Professor Peter Vulcan.
