Monash aircraft is up and away

The Lawrence Hargrave Monash Aircraft made its first official flight recently at the Bairnsdale Airshow 2000.

The remote pilot vehicle, on loan from Aerosonde Robotic Aircraft, is being used as part of a collaborative R&D project between Aerosonde and Monash's Centre for Telecommunications and Information Engineering.

Project director Professor Greg Egan said the loan of the aircraft would enable the centre to further develop Aerosonde's camera and imaging systems and secure data transmission and control systems.

A website on the aerosonde robotic aircraft and its flight at the Bairnsdale Airshow can be accessed at www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/lawr-h.htm

At a display of the Lawrence Hargrave Monash Aircraft before its first official flight are from left: director Aerosonde Robotic Aircraft Dr Greg Holland, dean of Engineering Professor Mike Brisk and head of Monash's Centre for Telecommunications and Information Engineering Professor Greg Egan.
