Since coming back to Monash seven months ago, Paul Barton has made his mark
as manager of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment.
Paul first came to Monash in the late eighties, when he studied science, undertaking a double major in pharmacology and physiology. This led to a job as an analytical chemist, followed by a stint as a consultant analysing contaminated petrol station sites and supervising asbestos removals.
Later he was appointed occupational health and safety consultant for Holden Australia, which he decided to make his speciality.
"The upside of working in this area is that it's terrific to help people," he says. "The downside, of course, is the accidents that do occur."
Since coming to Monash, Paul has been involved in the electronic newsletter 'Safetynet' as well as the university's new environmental policy, and has overseen an enhanced focus on customer service from the OHSE group.
Paul's interests include travelling the world, although he says that his three small children leave him no time for such interests now.
