Monash staff are invited to attend the inaugural Melbourne-Monash University Challenge 2000 on Sunday 13 August.

Student athletes in netball, badminton and basketball will go head-to-head for the Chancellors' Trophy at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre.

The challenge, an initiative of Monash Sports and Recreation Association and Melbourne University Sport, aims to showcase each university's sporting talent.

Entry is free. For further information, contact Mr John Campbell, extn 54100.

Monash Sports and Recreation Association hosted the International Judo Championships last weekend.

About 160 competitors from Australia and overseas took part in the event, and for many it was the last chance to compete before this year's Olympics.

A new state-of the-art wet surface hockey pitch has been opened on Clayton campus, with a clubhouse to be built by the end of the year.

The cost of the two projects, by Monash Sports and Recreation Association, will come to more than $1 million.

The new pitch is part of SRA's commitment to providing the best facilities possible for the university community.

It is hoped the new high-quality facilities will not only benefit the Monash University Hockey Club but will also become recognised as one of Melbourne's best hockey centres, attracting top-level hockey events.
