The Department of Chemical Engineering last week celebrated the 75th birthday of its foundation professor in conjunction with its alumni dinner.
Professor Owen Potter, now an emeritus professor, came to Monash in 1964 to establish and head the new Chemical Engineering department.
Highlights of his time at Monash have included witnessing the achievements of both his staff and students.
"Two of our staff have become professors at the University of Melbourne and one has become a professor at Adelaide University, and a number of our students have obtained very senior positions in the industrial world," he said.
Professor Potter, who retired as head of department in 1990, is the only person to have held the position of head of chemical engineering at three Victorian universities - Monash, Melbourne and RMIT.
