Nathan Bailey

IT expert Nathan Bailey has rejected more lucrative private sector employment because he believes that "at Monash, there is a real opportunity to change the world".

Nathan did his Bachelor of Science at Monash, majoring in computer science, in the early to mid-1990s.

He also landed his first job here while still studying, working at the help desk in 1994. By 1995, Nathan was employed by Network and Communications to do web and security work.

He graduated in 1996, then took off for a one-year sabbatical to the US, where he attended Washington Bible College.

Upon his return in 1997, he worked on the Monash Messaging System project, before moving to the Flexible Learning and Teaching Program.

Now the manager of Development and Integration there, Nathan's major focus is the Monash portal project, which aims to deliver personally relevant information to students and staff.

Nathan is currently doing his MBA, and says he finds much synergy between his studies and being a manager. He is also a mentor in the university-wide mentor scheme.

Outside of work, Nathan is a volunteer with Linux Users of Victoria, Linux being the second-most popular operating system after Windows. He is also involved with the church and likes adventure sports.
