As training coordinator for the Integrated Administrative Systems (IAS) project,
Sheena Whyte is part of a team responsible for implementing the most significant
technological change in the university to date.
Originally from Scotland, Sheena's aptitude for training was evident in her earlier career as a secondary school teacher, following in her mother's footsteps. She taught commerce and geography at Melbourne high schools in the 1970s.
Sheena eventually found employment with the university in 1982. Like so many other ex-school teachers working at Monash, she enjoys the stimulating educational environment here.
Given her background in commerce, Sheena took on a variety of financial administration roles. However, she recalls "jumping at the chance" to develop financial courses for staff at the then Professional Development Centre in 1995, so she could combine her twin loves of training and finance.
Sheena derives a similar benefit from her current position training staff in Systems Applications Products (SAP), the financial software component of IAS.
Having been at Monash for 18 years now, Sheena sees a current challenge facing the university to be "maintaining a sense of community at a time when communication is increasingly quick, yet impersonal".
As a contrast to her technology focus at work, Sheena relaxes by making her own bread, camping and bushwalking.
