Gordon Stephen brings a wealth of diverse life experiences to his job as
a data analyst in Statistical Services.
Born in Portsmouth, England, Gordon spent his childhood in a Scottish seaside village until his family migrated to Australia in 1966.
After leaving school, he joined the Merchant Navy for a five-year stint, but ironically, left because he wanted "to see the world". He spent the next seven months travelling around Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the UK.
On returning to Australia, Gordon had a succession of jobs including private investigator, tobacco picker, and tram driver and conductor.
He joined the Victorian Public Service, where he worked for various agencies over the next 15 years. During that time, he attained his Certificate of Business Studies (Real Estate) and a BA at Swinburne.
In 1994, Gordon became a research assistant at Deakin and joined Monash shortly afterwards. His major task involves collecting, validating and analysing statistics to meet reporting requirements.
Gordon still enjoys travel and is planning to take his family on an international staff exchange to Britain next year. His extra-curricular interests are rogaining and running marathons.
