Professor Andrew McCredie (centre) with School
of Music head Professor Margaret Kartomi and
PhD student Ms Daniela Kaleva.

A life in musicology

About 100 musicologists from all over Australia gathered at the Performing Arts Centre to mark the 70th birthday of Monash adjunct professor Andrew McCredie.

Professor McCredie's past and current students presented their research and musicological papers at the event to honour his contribution to their work and careers.

Professor McCredie was Monash's Professor of Musicology from 1968 to 1996, and thereafter adjunct professor and ARC Fellow in the Monash School of Music - Conservatorium.

Born in Sydney, Professor McCredie completed his PhD at the University of Hamburg in 1966 and later set up the first musicology teaching program in an Australian university.

He is still engaged in musicological research and is now co-editing a book about Jewish Asian music with School of Music head Professor Margaret Kartomi.
